The JHS Flight Delay was designed with a singular purpose: to provide everything you need in a delay pedal without any unnecessary complexity. In a landscape filled with intricate effects, we focused on creating a beautifully straightforward stompbox that combines essential delay types with practical features. Featuring three modes—Delay, Reverse, and Analog—inspired by my favorite delays, including the EHX Memory Man, Boss DD-5, and Line 6 DL4 “Reverse Mode," the Flight Delay is both familiar and versatile, making it perfect for players of any genre. If you’re frustrated with delay pedals that require endless menu diving, scrolling through complicated options, or navigating confusing interfaces, your search ends here!
Features/Specs
- MIX: Adjusts the blend of the delayed signal with your dry signal. Turn all the way left for a completely dry sound, all the way right for fully wet, and noon for a balanced 50/50 mix.
- REPEATS: Controls the feedback level of the delay. Turn left for fewer repeats and right for more; fully right gives you infinite repeats—use caution, as this can quickly spiral out of control!
- EQ: Adjusts the tone of the repeats. Left provides a darker, warmer delay, while right offers a brighter, crisper sound.
- TIME: Sets the delay length from 50ms to 1 second. Turn left for shorter delays and right for longer ones.
- MODULATION: The Flight Delay features a carefully designed modulation path that enhances the delayed signal, emulating the vibrato’d repeats of a Memory Man or the lo-fi warble of vintage tape delays.
- MOD DEPTH: Controls the intensity of the modulation effect; turn left for less depth and right for more.
- MOD RATE: Adjusts the speed of the modulation; turn left for slower modulation and right for faster.
MODE TOGGLE
- ANALOG: A filtered analog-style BBD delay reminiscent of classic echo pedals like the EHX Memory Man and BOSS DM-2.
- REVERSE: Replays the delay signal backward, inspired by effects like the Danelectro Back Talk and Line 6 DL4 Reverse mode.
- DIGITAL: A crisp, digital-style delay that pays homage to early DSP delays such as the BOSS DD-5 and Ibanez DE7.
- Note: When switching between modes, the delay time will revert to the setting on the Time control.
ADDITIONAL FEATURES
- SUBDIVISION TOGGLE: Selects the interval of delay repeats—quarter note, eighth note, or dotted eighth note—relative to your tapped tempo.
- MODULATION TOGGLE: Sets the delay modulation style to chorus, vibrato, or off.
- TRAILS BYPASS MODE: Allows the repeats to continue trailing when the pedal is bypassed. To activate or deactivate, hold both footswitches for two seconds while the pedal is on. The left bypass LED will blink, and the setting will be saved.
TAP/EXPRESSION CONTROL FOR DELAY TIME
- TAP: For external tap control, connect a mono TS cable to the TAP/EXP jack and attach it to a switch or clocking device.
- EXPRESSION: To control delay time with an expression pedal, connect a stereo TRS cable to the TAP/EXP jack. Heel down produces the fastest delay time, while toe down yields the slowest.
FOOTSWITCHES
- LEFT FOOTSWITCH: Bypass switch that toggles the effect on and off.
- RIGHT FOOTSWITCH: Tap tempo switch. Tap in your tempo with two or more presses to set your delay time. (This will reset to the Time control setting when switching modes.)
POWER CONNECTIONS
- INPUT: 1/4” jack located on the top right side of the pedal.
- OUTPUT: 1/4” jack located on the top left side of the pedal.
- TAP/EXP JACK: 1/4” jack situated on the top between the input and DC jack.
- POWER REQUIREMENTS: Requires 9V DC negative center power and consumes 85mA. Do not exceed 9V DC, or you will void your warranty.
