Available now at Haggerty's Music, the Mary Ford Les Paul Standard pays tribute to a groundbreaking artist who left an indelible mark on music history. Born Iris Colleen Summers on July 7, 1924, Mary Ford was a celebrated guitarist, vocalist, and actress who rose to fame in the early 1950s. Her career began in country music, where her connections with legends like Gene Autry and Eddie Dean paved the way for her partnership with Les Paul. The duo married in 1949, and their musical collaboration resulted in over six million records sold in 1951 alone. Between 1950 and 1954, they recorded 16 top-ten hits, showcasing Mary’s velvety voice, intricately layered harmonies (achieved through pioneering multi-track recording techniques), and exceptional guitar skills that blended country, jazz, and pop.

Mary Ford and Les Paul also made their mark on guitar design. In 1951, their custom order inspired the creation of the ES-295 hollowbody, and by 1958, Mary is believed to have commissioned a unique Les Paul™ Goldtop featuring an ES-295-style floral pickguard and matching armrest. Today, Gibson celebrates this legacy with the Mary Ford Les Paul Standard, meticulously crafted to reflect the elegance of the original.

This stunning Goldtop model is paired with a rare Vintage Cherry back and adorned with a cream-and-gold floral pickguard and armrest. Built with a mahogany body and maple cap, a mahogany neck with a SlimTaper™ profile, and a rosewood fretboard, it delivers rich tone courtesy of its Burstbucker™ pickups—Burstbucker 2 in the neck and Burstbucker 3 in the bridge. Complete with a hardshell case, this guitar honors Mary Ford, a trailblazer whose artistry and innovation continue to inspire musicians worldwide.
