You are indulging in a Custom Catch guitar by Taylor Guitars. The guitar is built on the chassis of the Grand Concert body with the cool paring of Hawaiian Koa back/sides and a Sinker Redwood top.
Grand Concert was the first original body shape by Bob Taylor designed in the early 80s for fingerstyle champion, Chris Proctor. It is a super comfortable body shape for fingerstyle players and is a great recording guitar. Known for its balanced tone which makes it a favorite for fingerstyle players or for players looking for a comfortable guitar. Taylor can be known to call this the "secret weapon" because its small size makes it a comfortable stage guitar. Its size becomes apparent when you are playing for hours at night.
Hawaiian Koa is a gorgeous tonewood that has tiger strip flames on top of a luscious golden palette. Its beauty mesmerizes everyone who looks at it and is not only a great sounding tonewood, but if hung on a wall, turns into a work of art. On top of its looks, tonally, it has a very wide frequency range that is balanced across the board. It has a unique trait in that over time, it will open up on the bass side and further expand the lower-end range.
Sinker Redwood has been a staple with Taylor Guitars for many years and is always an acceptable addition to any guitar. Redwood only comes in one area of the planet. As its name implies, it has a red color in the wood. Sinker Redwood comes from one log that spent 80 years of its life at the bottom of the Mendocino River, till a storm came through and dislodged it. Over the years, it has collected silt and minerals at the bottom of the river and you see in the top of Sinker Redwood. The dark, randomized lines going up and down the top are evidence of its life in the river. Take the guitar outside and you'll see the reflection of light as if you're staring down at the bottom of a river bed. Besides the cool story, this top sits between a spruce-top guitar and a cedar-top guitar. It has a stiffness similar to spruce to give you the volume you require but retains a nice warmth that is reminiscent of a cedar top guitar. This top makes this guitar the perfect match to Hawaiian Koa.
Other notable specifications include the S-Curve Fretboard inlay that matches the Faceted Rosette in MOP and Koa materials. The bridge pins are made in Alaska and made of bone material with awabi dots. The guitar is equipped with the Expression System 2 electronics giving you all the headroom volume and an active EQ.
