You are viewing a truly unique custom from Taylor Guitars.  This guitar is the only one in existence and you can expect to find a guitar like this at Haggerty's Music.  The custom is built on a chassis of the Grand Theater body shape and features Honduran Rosewood back and sides and a Sinker Redwood top.  Since its inception, we always wanted the body shape to be featured in a Presentation Series package and Taylor Guitars answered the bell.

Andy Powers loves this Honduran Rosewood because of its dense feature giving this guitar a wide tonal range with added bass response compared to East Indian Rosewood or even Brazilian Rosewood. It also features a cool grain pattern that sets each wood set apart with a nice milk chocolate color that you won't find with other species of Rosewood.   The best part is that it is harvested in a responsible way which will allow us to maintain a steady supply for years to come.  Sinker Redwood has been a staple with Taylor Guitars for many years and is always a desirable addition to any guitar.  Redwood only comes in one area of the planet.  As its name implies, it has a red color in the wood. Sinker Redwood comes from one log that spent 80 years of its life at the bottom of the Mendocino River, till a storm came through and dislodged it.  Over the years, it has collected silt and minerals at the bottom of the river and you see it in the top of Sinker Redwood.  The dark, randomized lines going up and down the top are evidence of the river.  Take the guitar outside and you'll see the reflection of light as if you're staring down at the bottom of a river bed.  Besides the cool story, this top sits between a spruce-top guitar and a cedar-top guitar.  It has a stiffness similar to spruce to give you the volume you require but retains a nice warmth that is reminiscent to a cedar top guitar.

The custom was designed to be a centerpiece to any collection or the-show stopper at any performance.   Paua Abalone is hand inlaid into the guitar as purling the top, back and sides of the guitar.  It seamlessly matches the California Vine on the ebony fretboard and peghead and the single-ring rosette.    With a smaller body architecture, Taylor Guitars wanted to give this body shape a lower-end presence.  This can be very challenging as smaller body shapes are not known for ample bass response.  We are more familiar with Jumbo body shapes to give us the lower-end growl.  So in order to accomplish this with the Grand Theater, Andy Powers had to have the top move.  Under the hood, the top bracing took a nod from V-Class bracing, known to increase volume and sustain and introduce a specific, asymmetrical top bracing called C-Class Bracing.  "C" stands for Cantilever and allows the top more movement to emphasize the bass response.  The overall effect of this compact body shape is a well-rounded tone that is surprisingly focused and responsive.

The guitar comes equipped with the Expression System 2 and includes TaylorSense as an added bonus for all of these Custom "Catch" Guitars.

This guitar was purchased at a dealer-only event and was the actual guitar on display.  This has been coined as the Taylor Custom Catch Guitar Event.  Every year Taylor Guitars showcases a selection of Custom guitars that feature options you cannot get from their standard custom shop options.  This provides a truly custom experience.  These options include unique tonewoods, inlays, bridge pins, rosette designs, and custom tuning buttons.
