The Taylor 417e-R Grand Pacific represents Taylor’s modern take on the classic round-shoulder dreadnought — a design rooted in the warm, powerful acoustic tones that defined countless recordings from the mid-20th century. When Andy Powers introduced the Grand Pacific body shape, the goal was to create a guitar that delivered a more vintage-inspired voice than Taylor’s traditionally bright and articulate sound. The result is an instrument with a seasoned, blended character: deep lows, smooth mids, and a slightly compressed high end that sits beautifully in a mix. Finished in a striking Tobacco Sunburst, this particular 417e-R blends traditional aesthetics with Taylor’s modern craftsmanship.
The tonewood pairing of a solid Sitka spruce top with Indian rosewood back and sides gives this guitar an expansive tonal range. Sitka spruce provides clarity and dynamic headroom, while rosewood contributes lush overtones and a rich, resonant bass response. Combined with Taylor’s V-Class bracing, the guitar produces impressive volume and sustain while maintaining excellent note-to-note clarity across the fretboard. The Grand Pacific’s round-shoulder body shape further enhances warmth and low-end depth, making this instrument ideal for strumming, flatpicking, and singer-songwriter accompaniment.
Equipped with Taylor’s Expression System 2 electronics, the 417e-R transitions seamlessly from unplugged sessions to live performance. Whether around a campfire, recording in the studio, or performing on stage, players can expect a balanced and natural amplified tone that faithfully captures the guitar’s acoustic character. With Taylor’s renowned playability, elegant appointments, and a voice that blends vintage warmth with modern clarity, the 417e-R is a versatile instrument built to inspire players across a wide range of styles.
